A Comprehensive Review of CapLead Business Card Scanning App

In today’s competitive sales landscape, capturing and nurturing qualified leads is paramount for success. The traditional methods of business cards and manual data entry are often time-consuming, error-prone, and lack crucial insights. Apps like CapLead.co and Handshook.app emerge as possible solutions, offering a cloud-based platform designed to streamline lead capture, automate follow-up, and empower sales teams with valuable data and analytics. This comprehensive review delves into CapLead’s functionalities, explores its strengths and weaknesses, analyzes its suitability for various sales team needs, and compares it to alternative lead capture and management platforms.

Core Functionalities

CapLead.co goes beyond basic lead capture, functioning as a comprehensive lead management platform with features designed to optimize the sales process:

Pros:

  • Lead Capture: Business card scanning and OCR functionality.
  • Lead Scoring and Qualification: Prioritize leads with the highest conversion potential based on predefined criteria, allowing sales teams to focus on the most promising opportunities.
  • Automated Lead Nurturing: Automate email sequences and tasks, freeing up sales reps’ time to focus on building relationships and closing deals.
  • Data-Driven Insights: Gain valuable data and reporting to monitor lead capture trends, measure sales pipeline health, and optimize lead nurturing strategies.
  • CRM and Marketing Automation Integration: Centralize your sales data and streamline communication by integrating CapLead with existing platforms.
  • Mobile App: Capture leads from business cards on the go and eliminate manual data entry, increasing efficiency for sales reps in the field.
  • Limited Free Plan: The free plan offers basic functionalities with limited lead capture forms and storage, hindering its usefulness for most sales teams.

Cons:

  • Learning Curve: While the platform is user-friendly, maximizing its features and automation capabilities might require some initial learning and setup.
  • Customization Options: Compared to some competitors, CapLead offers a slightly more limited range of customization options for lead capture forms and email sequences.
  • Limited Reporting Features: While basic reporting is available, more advanced reporting functionalities with deeper data insights might be desired by some sales teams.
  • Doesn’t work with Event Badges: You may have to split your leads into 2 separate platforms as this app only scans business cards.
  • Doesn’t Work for Digital Business Cards: More an more event attendees are using digital business cards like Popl, HiHello, Dot Card, and Blinq. This app doesn’t appear to work with these platforms which further splits your lead collection process.
  • No LinkedIn: LinkedIn is the most popular social network for professionals. It would be nice to have some built-in LinkedIn integration for networking at events
  • No Batch Scanning: Trade show booths get busy in waves on breaks. It would be nice to have a batch mode option to scan multiple cards at once.
  • No Appointment Booking: With all of the noise in email, it is more important than ever to book meetings when you are face-to-face with a prospective customer. This feature is missing from this app.
  •

Pricing

CapLead.co doesn’t make their pricing page easily accessible but when you find it on their website they have a clear tiered structure.

caplead pricingReviews

At the time of this writing, Caplead has only one review in the app store and only 100 downloads and no reviews on Android.

On third-party sites like GetApp or Capterra and there are no reviews on either platform as of the time of this writing.

All of this makes me a little hesitant to recommend the app even though the feature set looks good the reviews suggest that it isn’t widely used.

Who should consider it

CapLead.co can be useful to a wide range of sales teams and organizations on a basic level.

However, for sales teams requiring highly customized lead capture forms or extensive reporting functionalities, alternative solutions might be more suitable.

Alternative Lead Capture Apps

The 3 best alternatives to Caplead built specifically for universal lead capture at any event are as follows:

  • Handshook: Shines at scanning all types of inputs you’d find at a trade show: event badges, business cards, and even digital business cards like HiHello, Blinq, and Dot card. Plus can find missing contact information on badges and connect with prospects on LinkedIn right from the app.
  • Romify.io – AI powered mobile app is compatible with both business cards and event badges which makes it super useful at a trade show. It links with your CRM but lacks some advanced features like the one above.
  • iCapture PowerScan: Other than Handshook, this app seems to be the next best thing available for lead capture and business card scanning but is more intended for scanning business cards and connecting with Salesforce. However, it doesn’t appear to be as compatible as Handshook or Romify.

Final thoughts

If you need a lead capture app but it isn’t critical to your trade show, Caplead may be a good option as it has reasonable pricing and the basic features one would expect. However, it only seems to work with business cards, so you’ll still need an event badge scanner app in addition.

Also, it does lack some of the advanced features found in Handshook’s Lead Capture app like LinkedIn lookup and the ability to find missing contact information with AI on badge scans.

In short, you can try it out but given the reviews, you may discover you need to upgrade to a different platform sooner than expected.
